This book tore my heart to shreds and then slowly mended it until it was bursting. Having heard great things about Alex Grayson’s books, I threw myself into this book the minute it showed up on my reader. I am so glad I did.
Gwen is moving forward with her life after the death of her husband. Her daughter, Kelsey, is not having an easy time with her father’s death. Her son, Daniel, is grieving for both his father and for the big sister he lost due to her shutting down.
Alexander is a tortured man. Blaming himself for having lost his wife, child, and future, he is a barely functioning man. My heart ached for this man.
A chance meeting brings Gwen and Alexander together. Circumstances bring Gwen and her children into Alexander’s home. As they get to know each other and their tragedies, a connection is formed not only between Alexander and Gwen, but Alexander and Kelsey.
Reading how they move towards healing is uplifting. But it seems that with each step forward, their tragic past drags them back. When they are finally at a place where it looks like they are going to move forward, fate again brings them another struggle.
Ms. Grayson has thrown in some horses, puppies and a spitfire in Daniel to give the book more texture and tender moments.
I recommend this book with my whole mended heart. This incredible story is so brilliantly written, it will touch you in ways that are incomparable.
