I am never alone. Not even when I am alone.

I see the unquiet dead, the souls that wander through the French Quarter.

They can’t move on, and I can’t stop seeing them.

I wear malachite for protection, and I control what I let in. It’s the only way to stay sane. Everything changes the day Cassian Winslow joins my ghost walking tour and knocks my world off its axis with green eyes the color of the stone around my neck.

An unspeakable evil is loose in New Orleans, taking young women and leaving a bloodbath in his wake. More shadows lurking for me. More unhappy dead. There might be a way to stop it.

Open myself up to Cassian.

If I do, it could spell his death.

But if I don’t, it’s mine.

Marie’s Review

Ok, this was unexpected. I have a feeling that most of the people that read this book will be fans of Kristen Proby’s romances and this ain’t that. Sure, there’s an element of romance to Shadows, but this story is so much more than that. Totally chilling, it will have you in its grip from the first page.

Ms. Proby gives us total enthralling story of witches, shadows and the mysterious that is New Orleans. With a twist of disturbing, the story is mesmerizing. The characters in this book are truly enchanting.

Brielle and Cash had chemistry from the start and as they got to know each other, the hotter their relationship got. I loved the way that Cash was always looking out for Brielle, but the dedication he had to his job.

I loved Brielle from the start. She and her sisters had survived hell to get to they were in their lives only to have that hell revisit them. The way they worked together to confront the darkness was brilliant.

This is the first book in the Bayou Magic series and Ms. Proby started us out with a superb story with brilliant writing. 5 Stars #2OCCMS

Gemma’s Review

This was another incredible read by this amazing author that really took me by surprise how much I enjoyed this story. When I started to read this story I was only planning to read one chapter before bed and before I know it I was half way through the book because I could not get enough of this story. I normal don’t read books with a supernatural twists but this story really had me intrigued. The added sense of mystery throughout the story and romance really added to the story creating this incredible read.

I really enjoyed Brielle from the start of the book and only grew to like her more and more as the story went on. I loved the way that she was always there for her sisters and the strength that she carried around with her.

Cash, I really adored with the way that he wanted to help out Brielle and look out for her despite not knowing each other for long. I really loved how he supported her throughout the story and how he trusted her. This showed the caring guy this character was that really made me love him.

This is one story that really makes you think about true love with how powerful this couples love for each other was and how they had an immediate connection to each other. I really found they were perfect for each other and found they made a great team. The storyline was impeccable written leaving me on the edge of my seat all the way through the story. The way the author switched point of views in the story really added to the story and further added that mysterious element to storyline. This is one book that everyone needs to read.

About Kristen Proby

Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.
